07.18.2025 Richard and Tracey's 20th Wedding Anniversary Party (for all)

At this week's FNW, Richard and Tracey will be celebrating their 20th wedding anniversary by having Jan Pumpr from Prague (far right in the photo) as their guest of honor and co-teacher of tonight's classes.

Jan (pronounced Yahn) arranged all of the details of Richard and Tracey's wedding in Prague twenty years ago. Jan has taught dance for decades, and excels in both dancing and teaching polka, which originated in his country, the Czech Republic. Jan is also one of the organizers of next summer's Paris and Prague Vintage Dance Weeks (check out that page).

7:15 - Welcome to the Polka!  This happy, bouncy dance has endured for generations, and has never died out. You can't be in a bad mood when you polka. Come zoom around the floor!

8:00 - So many variations!  Jan and Richard will alternate teaching their favorite polka variations, including Tracey's favorites, which you'll find useful in your freestyle dancing. Polka is danced at every Friday Night Waltz, so you will want to up your game in this fun dance.

  If you already polka, come for dozens of pointers to make your dancing even better, and especially to help guide beginners through their first steps! The polka variations will actually begin during the first 7:15pm class.
    If you're a beginner, please arrive at 7:15pm for the fundamentals.

9 pm - Dance Party!  Richard and Tracey's favorite music for waltz, swing, polka, cha cha, cross-step waltz, BNP, salsa, Tokyo Polka, Lindy, tango, Romany Polka, WCS, hustle and more.

For those who don't know about Richard Powers, he is one of the world's foremost experts in social dance. He has taught dance in Paris, London, Rome, Venice, Prague, Vienna, Geneva, Seville, Edinburgh, Krakow, St. Petersburg, Moscow, Tokyo and Kyoto, including 31 workshops in France (teaching in French), 28 in Japan (teaching in Japanese), and 22 in Russia (not teaching in Russian). Richard is currently the full-time social dance instructor at Stanford University.
